Quality Pie is a must! Just the bread alone is worth a visit. Started brunch with a mimosa. My version of a mimosa is champagne with a splash of OJ. I’m the type that should make my own and enjoy at home. Don’t recommend the mimosa.Ordered the Tortilla Espanola which is basically a potato , egg, and onion pie. Next was the BLT served with potato salad and pickle. Best BLT I’ve ever had. Finished with a caprese salad. Fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Absolutely delicious.Service: Ordered at the counter and sat at the long table in the middle. There is seating outside and at the bar area.Atmosphere: similar to an old diner.
I selfishly don't want to review this place because I want it to stay our little secret. Quality Pie is the best restaurant in Charlottesville. So fresh, flavorful and good variety of dishes with a rotating seasonal menu. The duo who runs this place are also so kind and helpful. Don't even get me started on the bread... it is like a warm hug when you need it most. You can tell the chef truly loves what their doing because the care with each dish is unmatched. Don't sleep on this place. It's the best!
Happened upon this little gem as we were searching for a place to grab a sandwich. I always like to try small out of the way places . This is truly a fantastic surprise! Outstanding service and a menu that leaves one dropping their jaw in awe of the variety. The gazpacho is extraordinary! Rich and flavorful with their own garden tomatoes, right outside the door! Yes a garden and compost right at hand. We shared a BLT on excellent Sourdough with those same homegrown tomatoes. A free slice of homegrown cantaloupe to finish. We can’t wait to come back. Worth the drive from Lexington!!
What a fun and unexpected place! You would never know by looking at the outside that there is world class delicious food being served inside. This is a 2 person show and the service and food is amazing. They also have an impressive wine list for a small casual restaurant. What a hidden gem!
Outstanding service. Extremely friendly staff. Very very clean. The food is nothing short of spectacular. The muffuletta is awesome. We were too stuffed to the pie but it looked great. Highly recommended. Eat outside if it’s nice. Great place.
Quality Pie on Avon in Charlottesville is a delicious experience, and I had long heard of it as a 'must-visit'. It's true. I was not sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a lot more than pie.Tomas Rahal, who created Quality Pie, was on the premises during my visit, and just happens to be good friends with my lunchmates. I got to hear him talk a bit about grapes and yeast and sample some delicious wine ahead of the meal. The two wines we sampled were from the same grape, but the two versions were worlds apart, one like an imperial russian stout, quite dark and viscous, and the other like a bright chardonnay, yellow with a solid tang. He told us the only difference between the two was time. The rich coffee was a beautiful contrast. While we waited, I visited the beautiful art, small sculptural displays, and inviting atmosphere of the interior. We sat outside, and Avon provided a lively show.Tomas invited us to try the fresh chanterelle frittata, but I had my hopes set on the chorizo, egg, pepper and polenta, which was divine, a spanish morning on a plate. Each bite revealed texture and flavor in good balance. The chorizo is from a local charcuterie, bright with spice and taut, with a snap in the casing. It reminded me of kielbasa. The egg was perfectly cooked and seasoned, with the yolk still velvety in a cooked pocket, and salt in good measure. The polenta was crisp with a soft center, and the pepper was sweet and cooked to a still-firm bite.Perhaps the most beautiful moment was giving Tomas a hug after we ate, he's a buddha who walks amongst us, and it was a kind gesture to exchange thanks for the delicious meal and conversation. Service was kind and quick, the food was quality defined, and the atmosphere is a quiet contrast to the bustle of the city. You should go.
On vacation, I was staying at Keswick Hall. My mom and I decided to venture into town for dessert. We love pie and were not disappointed. Fast, friendly with great service that serves amazing food. The pecan pie was so delicious.
With little knowledge of the menu or style of service, I entered Quality Pie just looking for a filling breakfast, preferably on the greasy side ;) As the cashier was suggesting the most popular items, I was immediately drawn to the pork belly biscuit. I also ordered a Berliner Weisse style fruity beer. The food was outstanding! The salsa verde, fried egg, and pickled onions were delicious and added some moisture to the pork belly (not the most moist I've ever had, but delicious in the context). The cost of the entree was 12 and fueled me for the whole afternoon. The food was brought to me outside and my plates cleared for me. Upon returning my beer glass the owner even suggested I try the beer with a raspberry syrup next time and was sorry he hadn't suggested it sooner. I'll be back for more delicious brunches & next time I'll have to try a coffee or mimosa!Delicious biscuit meal and a great spot to sit outdoors and watch busy Avon street go by.
